The EPB switch works the same way as a normal park brake or E-Brake. If you activate the switch it gently applies the rear brakes to slow you down, once you are going slowly enough, 12mph or less it will fully engage.

Same here, except it was my brothers 1968 GTO, he had an aversion to following any type of maintenance, unless you call waxing maintenance .
And thank you for summing up in a short manner what I was longwindedly incapable of conveying.
The EPB will work to stop you.
