Default 03 lx auto trans no park engagement

title kinda says it all.
03 protege lx 2.0 auto will not engage park.
not a shifter interlock problem, that works fine.( you know when you have to step on the brake to get out of park and into another gear.....)that all is fine and functions as intended.
just when you put the car into park,it doesn't engage what i have been told is the parking pawl.
no other transmission issues,od works fine as does reverse......
anyway, i cant be the only person this has happened to.......

maybe it is weather related ???? it was 6 degrees this am and hasn't gotten above mid twenties..... but this has never been a problem before.....

oh well...
thanks for reading and possibly helping me out.....

So what makes you think its not engaging? What is it doing, or not actually doing to cause you concern? Does it affect the starting of the engine? Does it roll away when its in Park?

Default park issues

no parking pawl engagement.
when you put the car in park, yes it will roll,as if it is in neutral.
no basic car related issues at all ( no check engine light ,and no other trans related issues )except for the fact that the car has no way to keep itself still, except for applying the parking brake

yes overdrive works as it is supposed to,and reverse works fine as well.

and another side note, the parking brake interlock works as it is supposed to as well.

how do these know when to "engage park" ???

is there a sensor,or pair of sensors????

maybe this is a basic cable adjustment????

have you ever heard of this happening before on one of these????

Possibly somebody has selected Park while the car has is still rolling and the Parking Pawl has snapped off.

Default park issues

as far as i know of, it has never been forced into park when still in motion.

i think there must be a sensor that tells it when the stick is in the park position.
i know there are usually sensors for that,i just do not know what the trans uses to know what position it is in.

i am just hoping someone else has had this happen before and figured out the fix.

i know about the issues with the interlock mechanism that others have had,but i think the interlock only controls the " must have the brake pedal in for the trans stick to be able to be moved" .

i don't know what controls the park function, maybe the same switch that controls the reverse lights????

Default park is back

park started working again, and has worked fine all week, just like it always did before.

but the question still remains why it quit working and how to fix it so i know it won't just randomly start to do the " no park " thing again......

nobody has had this same problem before ???

geez, i would feel kinda special here.....

can someone look that issue up in a manual for me,perhaps???
i would guess p5's and the wagons would all use the same park related system...
