This may be a valid point as I have been running my car in these pressure for the front tyres from new.

Now with 24,000 miles I am noticing edge wear, however unlike others mine have worn on both edges, typical of under inflated tyres !!!!!!

On my local TV news a few months back, owners of Transit Sportvans (fitted with big wheels and low profile tyres) staged a protest at the Ford headquarters in Brentwood. Guess what they were angry about........ yes, it was excessive tyre wear.

See below part of the road test for the facelift. This is from the Telegraphs Honest Johns web site.

But now, according to project leader Kenichi Fukanaga, the entire rear suspension has been redesigned, ostensibly to “optimise stability on motorways and curves.” But really to eliminate once and for all the bugbear of excess tyre wear. To make absolutely sure, new, much stronger alloy wheels are also fitted.

Default Second reply from SMMT / Motor Industry Codes of Practice

Well I got my letter off Motor Industry Code of Practice, dated 6/6/09 post franked as 9/6/09 delivered 11/6/09, with the response Mazda gave. See attached document. .... Now again Mazda are playing dumb and lying. Mazda never contacted me. They deflect the issue by referring to the old problem of the rear tyre wear from 2007. They have the pictures I sent (which some were attached to these 2 threads in this forum. But it looks like they play blind and only look at the picture their garage took square on at the threads and claim they see no abnormal wear. They have also assumed the tyres are not available for inspection. Because my tyres have been replaced and paid for they assume I’m not interested in following up this complaint on behalf of myself let alone others. Mazda! I still drive the car. The Mazda garage did not rotate my tyres at the service (or at any other time) , they also didn’t give me a printout to put in the owners manual as per the Digital Service record directions, when I ask was there any paperwork he (service manager) said ‘no, nothing, not necessary...’. They are speaking an alternative language to confuse us, they’re saying the suspension used was dependant on the axle weight, as if it was the only factor. How did they guess the size then (length, swing, rake, castor, trail, pivot etc)? They’ve no idea of the calculations involved. That’s because a spin doctor lawyer must have written the report that went to SMMT. This, without what we ( I) would expect of an ‘Full Investigation’.
By the way Dunlop told me there has been no ‘enhancement’ to their SP2050 tyre. (Maybe Mazda are referring to different tyre pressures maybe.)
The facelift road test is probably the historic rear tyre wear which is closed and not an issue on our current Mazda 5 Sports and Mazda use as an excuse to deflect the current front tyre wear. . Which so far has worked very well for them if the SMMT response doesn’t improve.
I may attach here my earlier second letter of compliant to Mazda so you can judge for yourself. I will write a reply to SMMT in due course but at present I’m fuming, and need to word it nicely or else I'll receive an ASBO for writting unsocial letters, Ha Ha!
Because of import file size limitations I've had to copy to note and lost all formatting etc.

Default Mazda 5 Furano ongoing tyre problem

Hi I have a 5/6 model after 25k total on third set, mazda paid first set, second set despite new alignment settings and so say modified tyres by Dunlop still down to steel on inside edges. Reluctant to contribute now and blaming alignment and set back of vehicle, despite many specialists viewing tyre damage and alignment figures and disagreeing. Is MMUK stratergy to divert attention away from design, stall for time? end of warrenty approaching. I have read this site for years, but now is the time for others as well to contribute and act together. IT IS ONLY TIME BEFORE A FAMILY OF 7 IS KILLED DUE TO A HIGH SPEED BLOW OUT. the tyres do not last between service intervals and the abnormal wear bieng on the inside is virtually impossible to spot. My battle goes on with Mazda, but I am keen to know how to effectively take this to the SMMT and what progress has been made with watchdog etc?

Hello again, its been afew months since i have been on here and have just had my sport in for its mot, and they have failed it on tyre wear!!!!! they said it was to dangerous to take as the tyres wear so badly worn!!!! I have just got back from a tyre fitters and they were suprised i HADNT KILLED MYSELF DUE TO TYRE WEAR!!! they said It could of blown at anytime as the wear was down to the inner stuff on the tyres!!!! I would mind but this problem has suppose to of been sorted out!!!! this will be my 5th set of tyres at only 30k. The Mazda dealers wanted to charge me £180 a tyre but have gone direct through a tyre dealer for just £60 a tyre and there the same as what mazda were going to put on, just had to pay a small charge to the tyre fitters for changing them so have saved a lot of money!
This problem hasnt gone away and I am sick to the back teeth of this, I am really peed off with this as I am not really using the car anymore, I darent use it for long journeys as I would never forgive myself if a tyre was to go and something happened to anyone.

The mazda dealers dont want to know as the warrenty has run out on mine, they just keep saying it must be you tracking thats out, or mazda have rectified the problem now so it is ok!!!!
I explained that over 30k I have had 5 sets of tyres on it so therefor only getting an average of 6k each set of tyres!!!!! surely this isnt normal but they say theres not a problem anymore so what can I do!!!!!!

I recieved a letter from Mazda saying they were reviewing my complaint (2 sets of tyres gone in 26k miles) and that I should recieve a reply within 10 days which runs out next Tuesday. They did take over a week to get this original letter to me though. Interestingly I have recieved no response from SMMT even though others have suggested quick responses.

Maybe the SMMT need to talk to Kenichi Fukanaga

My warranty is out now too, but the issue has been raised as part of MOT/service just inside warranty.

However I am wondering if in the UK we may get some assistance from the Sales of Goods act which covers goods for up to 7 years as being reasonably "Fit For Purpose". As I read it after 6 months it is the ownes of the buyer to prove that the product is not Fit For Purpose, which in this case is still valid as the car consistantly shows poor/unsafe tyre wear. Anyone got any thoughts ?

Angry

have just got back from the dealership with my car, after taking the old thread bear tyres in for them to look at, and once again they said there is no problem that mazda are aware of with reguards to the front tyres, it was the back tyres that they had the problem with!!! told them to look at this forum.
Anyway as for my tyres they said it was due to under inflation or using the steering on full lock that will make it like that!!!!! I may be blonde (and yes it is out of a bottle) but come on Im not dumb!!!!
So nothing is going to be done reguarding this, So yes I think it should be looked into further as mazda dont seem to want to know and if its still happening with the newer models then yes theres a problem
