Brake Caliper removal!!! Odd spongy bolts!
Ok, I dove into a brake pad change on my 04 Tribute thinking I could figure it out. Well after looking at this thing for about a 1/2 hour I am lost. First they are disc brakes..no biggie!! I removed the retainer wire. Then that when I got stumped. I see 2 botls that hold the caliper housing on the unit but the where I thought would be the bolts holding the actual caliper on to the caliper housing is 2 spongy looking/feeling *****!!!! What do I do here??? the caliper moves a little but only because the spongy things are giving way. I have never seen this. I looked on other strings and they talk about 4 bolts...2 for the housing and 2 for the caliper...but not here! HELP!!!!

RE: Brake Caliper removal!!! Odd spongy bolts!
My '01 Tribute needed pads at 27,000 mi. and I've attached a few pics.. This is one of the easier brake pad replacements you will run into these days. If you are new to this type of work, the best thing to think about is that, brakes are one key thing that keeps you and everyone around you alive. Act accordingly :-)
Now I'm getting ready to do it again at 64K mi. but with a rotor replacement this time.
