Default water

i am having trouble with my 2.3 s i have to add colant to my around every week and a half if i dont it will overheat. once i was driving and turned the heater on then i noticed that the heat meater went way past the half mark so i turned the heater off and it went back to normal again. sometimes it takes a while in order to get hot air. im thinking that its my thermostat any suggestions will help also

Common leaks are waterpump/radiator and coolant tank. Warm it up to operating temp with a full radiator then shut it off and let it sit overnight. Look under the car before you restart it for puddles. Waterpumps are notorious for leaking cold and resealing themselves after warmup.
