Default Excessive Oil Consumption - 2007 CX-7

It's been 8 month and 25 days since the last oil change; approximately 4,400 kilometres or 2,735 miles travelled.

On a whim yesterday evening I checked the oil level and was surprised to find a completely dry dipstick.

There is no oil under the car. There are no warning lights. Nothings sounds odd or smells off. The CX-7 drives well, like it always has.

Is it possible for the engine to burn through nearly all its oil after such a short distance?

NO! Not without problems that you would notice.

Thank you for the welcome and the reply, Callisto!

I managed to get ahold of a Mazda dealership service technician (it was more difficult than it ought to have been).

His opinion?

Since the CX-7 has 157,209 kilometres or 97,685 miles on the odometer, it's not abnormal for the turbo to burn through a lot of oil.

A friend thinks the dealership messed up and didn't add enough.

It wouldn't be the first mistake they've made; the previous oil change something was left loose and there was oil under the car. There was no oil after the last change in August '22.

I topped up with 3.7 litres or 3.8 quarts of 5W-30 full synthetic oil.

This is happening to mine as well. No noticeable problems, sounds or smells. I have to add oil about every 2 weeks or it dries up. I would love to know how I can fix this. It doesn’t smell like it’s burning oil. I am an experienced mechanic and I’m stumped.

Welcome to the forum.

It helps to know the basic info about your Mazda. Just like you would get from a customer…

Then as u r an experienced mechanic what were your engine health results ? Also when you scoped the intake how much oil or oil residue was there? And the spark plugs what did they look like when you health checked your engine. If you ran it on an oscilloscope what did your ignition result show you?
if you are burning that much burning that much oil which I/M monitors are in fault because being in CA your Mazda would not pass required emissions test.
