Please dont go off the deep end.... lol
Don't get too excited it will not apply to the EPA regulation on emission control requirements for new automobiles. You still will need to comply with EMISIION regulations for older vehicles as do the auto manufactures. Whatever changes many will be grandfathered back into any new regulation that may be changed. This topic has actually been a "what-if" conversation on other none vehcle forums for a decade or more.

very interested...that would be better than knowing that almost 3/4 of all the cobalt for all lithium batteries is mined by slaves in the congo for our rechargeable battery products (cell phones, ev cars, etc.)...basically no one can say that they aren't supporting slavery at this point

batteries are totally another subject. On one forum I belong to it is well talked about by actual engineers and scientists. Not sure if we have to many scientists on this forum. These people I mention use real empirical information not usually found on a casual internet search and rarely ever posted on an automotive forum. lol
I never comment on any of my scientific forums that I also belong to a car enthusiast forum for good reason... rolmao.

currently listening to a podcast with Siddharth Kara who's an author that wrote a book on cobalt mining where he visited most of the cobalt mines in the congo where something like just shy of 3/4 of the worlds cobalt is mined by slaves and kids and the horrible conditions that these people have to deal with so they can supply the worlds rechargeable devices with cobalt for their internal batteries

If it does, along with it you'll get the increase in air and water pollution and a steady reduction in gas mileage back in that era.
I can't wait go back to the thick factory and diesel smoke, lead fouled smog and the polluted beaches and drinking water of my youth...
Ahhh...there was nothing like the early morning smell of the local chemical company hazmat byproduct wafting over the town every other day.
As their tanker trucks pumped their loads into the old limestone quarries.
Your assumption being we revert to poor efficiency which wont occur - fuel injection and intake systems , are fundamentally far far improved - which after the painful late 70s- early 80s emmissions boondogle we overcame those regs to still forced engineers to produce great muscle cars - I dont see leaded gas returning - but a good emissionless fuel injected ice could only be far less headaches - Oil comes from earth - out of earth - and belongs on earth - Floor it
