What's the typical price delta in your area between regular and premium? Here in NC in the Triangle it is about 70 cents/gallon. I recall the times where it was consistently 20 cents/gallon but those times are gone.

Living in California I don't look at the prices of gasoline so much anymore just pis**s me off with all the different taxes added on seems like a new one our governor sneaks in their every year or so for his pet projects?

Please don't waste you money to prove what most of all already know! Spend your money on some FUN stuff for your MAZDA!

If you really want something that will give you power figures IN THE REAL WORLD operating your MAZDA, have a look at an Autometer D-Pic. Less then a DYNO and will almost give you what you want to show for power.
Not sure why you quoted me. What my post said was we already know there is a published difference (by Mazda themselves) in power output for the 2.5T for 87 vs 93 octane fuel, but we don't have anything published (that I have seen, maybe you have?) showing what 100 octane fuel does to hp and torque compared to 93 octane (so dyno runs of 93 octane and 100 octane run back to back would be interesting). As an aside I think you meant to say "...will not get improved performance..." in your first line.

Perhaps what is happening in my 2019 CX 5 GT Reserve is that the ECU is programmed for up to and including 95 octane and I'm feeling the difference between our western US horsepiss 91 0ctane "premium" and the ECU's curve for 95 octane when I've run it on pure 100 octane.

Hey, at least that "Joy Juice" smells like automotive perfume out the tailpipe.

Sorry the response was for Litehiker
The x= rated HP, Y=ecu factory calibration.
"X" will not see a gain from 93 octane gasoline comparing 100 octane no lead gasoline (which would be using Socal or Union 76 race fuel NOT AV GAS) because "y" was never calibrated for octane above 93.
You can debate this all you want or spend a day of your time and money doing minimum 4 runs on the DYNO REPEATING ALL THE ORIGINAL PERIMETERS FROM THE FIRST by way of the DYNO operator re-calibrating the DYNO for changes.
I am just not sure how to explain it any other way but to simply you are not going to get more power then what the engine in stock build was measured unless you do a ECU calibration adjustment for higher octane fuel use of +93 octane . If it were that easy we all would have done that decades ago. LOL
But you or Litehiker go ahead and get the runs and post up the results without SAE smoothing and the full set up perimeters set up on for the DYNO run and make sure you ask for DATA Logging from your ECU with a full run data printout and then we can talk about each section and why things happened the way they did. DEAL?

Is there anyone on this forum that has actually done or had done and watched their ECU calibrated for upgrade performance parts installed on their engine or just a performance "TUNE"? LOL

Eric why don't you pop into one of several Perfroamcne shops in your area and talk to them about your thoughts on this subject you are convinced about which is fuel octane in your Mazda?

I know why you think the way you do... to much sniffing your tail pipe fumes....LOL

Thanks Cal, brilliant idea, "BRILLIANT"!
If you read my recent post I wrote "Perhaps..." meaning "maybe" or "possibly". I already have your thoughts on record - several times. I'll keep them in mind.
I gotta say, if you have never smelled the "aromatic essence" of 100 octane fuel you are missing one of a motorhead's great pleasures - it is truly much different than say, 93 octane and I hav no idea why.

Eric, I will often pull up to someone that is still running a carburetor and tell them that is the sweetest smell in the world. Now only a few on this forum might understand that?

I run many exotic fuel like Nitromethane, Xylene, and only Union 76 100 octane Race fuel in my 02 MINI. So yes I know very well the different smell it has. I also fly and Aviation fuels for small none jet engine has it own unique and very good smell.
Then there is LPG and good old fashion alcohol. I use all of um!

IMHO these all smell RACE!!! LOL
