I am out of the 3-year free update period and hence just keep the map at its current state. My last update was in 2021. In the age of Google/Apple maps, Mazda should make these free for the car's lifetime.

They should, but having the built in NAV as a backup for cell dead zones gives me a little piece of mind. If you have the SD system could you just get a new SD card from Amazon and reset the 3 year timer?

The Mazda Tool Box will flag the Amazon SD card as not authentic, and won't give you access to it at all.

For dead zones I do download offline maps from Google maps. Those offline maps work even when your smartphone has no network connection.

I have an older Garmin (I keep updated) I can always plug-in, it doesn't need a cell tower.
But being an old geezer former motorcycle rider, I also have handheld maps and a road atlas, paper and a marker I can actually write with.

Leaves me out
Rarely use it ,and wasn't willing to pay $349.99 for it . $40.00 amazon card was good enough for me ,and my Smartphone MapQuest works great also.

Yup I got the card for $50 from Amazon for the peace of mind. Very happy with it so far.
