Mazda App door unlock fails when fob is locked in the car
I frequently have a scenario where I want to park my CX-5 and lock the keys in the car so someone else can pick them up and drive away. The idea is that they text me when they're at the car and I unlock the car from the app, they retrieve the key from the glove box and drive away. I figured out that I can lock the key fob in the car by using the physical metal key to lock the door when I leave. But the Mazda app will not let me unlock the car when the fob is locked inside the car ("unlock failed: the key fob is inside the vehicle"). I can sort of understand the logic of not letting me lock the car from the app when the fob is inside. But what's the logic for not allowing you to unlock the car when the fob is inside?
Is there any other way to achieve what I am looking for?

BTDT. You could try leaving the key fob on the floor of the back seat.
I was locked out after leaving one of the fobs on the center consol. Had
to crawl in through the rear hatch.
Now, if you want to leave the car running say, I leave the fob in the door grab well.
