Default Leather Seats Possible Defect Or Not

I have a 2016 Mazda CX5
recently I noticed a small spot on passenger seat in which the seat appeares to be melting. The spot continues to grow and is now beginning months later on the driver seat.

Has anyone experienced this or know why this is happening?

Some sort of a defect, have your dealer warranty you a new seat cover.

The local dealer has agreed to replace the passenger side as a courtesy but will not replace the driver side seat. I have never seen anything like this and I have always had leather seats.

hey, I know it has been a year, we have the exact same problem on our CX-5 seats, almost as if the leather is defective and is just melting/peeling off. How many miles did you have and how long had you had the CX-5?

If you check out the other Mazda 247 forum site there is some similar posts regarding leather seats and wear. The post noted it was on their white color interior seats.

Your posted pics certainly don't look like wear issues.

As suggested I would start with dealer to validate and respond. I would also take it to a trim shop to get their written estimate and repair solution.

Certainly looks like some type of contamination in the mfg process with the leather and dye application.

I have the same year and model white interior also and this had happen to me 2 years ago I thought it was at my fault wasn’t sure how but that’s what I thought at the time. And now 4 days ago my back driver seat has done it but so much worse and I’m not quite sure what to do I have emailed mazda no response yet.

That looks god-awful. By chance, was anything spilled on those seats? Why did you wait until it got anywhere near this bad? Anyhow, emails many times tend to get ignored - particularly if there is a problem. Have you spoken to your dealer about this? If so and you get no satisfaction, try calling Mazda USA. Good luck and keep us updated.
