Default Intermittent, possibly electric, CX-5 starting problem

Hello,

Over the last few months I have had an intermittent starting issue with my 2014 Mazda CX5 (approx 95k miles). Sometimes the care will start, other times it wouldn't. When the car wouldn't start using a 1000 amp portable charger would almost always effectively jump start the car. During this period the battery was only 2-3 years old, the alternator and starter were checked and had no issues. I replaced the battery in August but the intermittent starting issues persisted so I took the car in. The mechanics conducted a milli amp test for a possible draw (test was within range), ended up replacing a corroded battery cable. Since then the car has continued to have intermittent starting issues.

Over the last two weeks it has failed to start approximately 10-12 times. For each event, the symptoms are similar. When I press the start button nothing happens, there is no noise/clicks, no lights at all on the dash, and the steering wheel is locked. Following the failure to start, I have tried clicking the unlock button on my key fob (while the car is already unlocked) and/or turning on the driver interior light and either leaving it on or turning it off after 3-5 seconds. When I click the unlock button on the fob the dash emergency lights turn on for 1-2 seconds and turn on. I then try the starter. This usually doesn’t work on the second try but I have experimented intermittently repeating the above action multiple times (anywhere from 2-8). For all but one event my car has eventually started (after a 30-45 second delay approximately). For one event I had to jump my car and it started immediately.

Does anyone have anyon what could be causing this (presumably electric) issue or have ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Many thanks!

Have you load tested the battery since replacing the corroded cable?
It is possible the corroded cable damaged the new battery, before you had it replaced.

I did not but the mechanic shop that replaced the battery did, says it was 12.6 which seems pretty normal and in working order

This is not an indication of the batteries health!

As mentioned, the battery need to be load tested before you do any further problem solving.
Make sure that the battery is fully charged for the test.
Also it is vitally important that you check the battery cable connectivity and condition at the ground on the chassis/body and at the starter.
