Electrical/fob locked up on turning engine off
Night before last I turned my engine off at my destination. I went to lock the car with the key fob and it didn't work - no response on fob or from vehicle. I don't have it set to lock automatically as I'm afraid of locking myself out. Got back in vehicle and it wouldn't start back up either, nor could I move the gears. The brake pedal felt frozen in an elevated position. I was in a hurry to take my DIL and grandkids to the airport in their car so I had to leave the vehicle unlocked til I got back - hello, security issue??!! An hour or so later, I was able to start the car and it behaved normally from then on. It was close to freezing out and a snow/ice mixture was coming down when it locked up but it had been being driven for 15 minutes. This was very disconcerting and makes me not trust my vehicle. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow to have this looked into. Has anyone else had this experience?? 2017 CX-5 Touring.
The South Tacoma Mazda service guy couldn't find any record in my car's "black box" of the incident. He said, once the engine turns off, there's no record of what happens after that. Not sure if that's true as the battery still powers lots of things when the engine's turned off. Anyway he looked up the described problem and found a PCM update specific for that. He said these PCM updates are to the engine's master computer, not just electrical accessories etc, and the company doesn't want them used unless the problem they're for is experienced. Hopefully that will resolve this. I note my trip stats now come up again when I turn the engine off - haven't seen those in many months. The engine seems to be running quieter and things like gears and brakes are working more smoothly.
