Default Problem when Locking doors

Hope to find a solution from you guys!!

Since last week I can't lock the doors of my 2008 CX9 neither with the FOB or with the black botton on the door. At first I thought it could do something with the battery in my smart key, so I changed it. No luck, the problem persists. What is funny is that I can open the trunk and start the car as normal (with FOB).

Whenever I try to lock or unlock the doors with the FOB it just doesn't work and when I push the botton on the door to lock it I just get 6 beeps. The only way to lock the doors is by the using the auxiliary key

Have you heard anything like this? Any Idea how to solve the problem?

I hated the smart key on the 08 GT. I had the same problem you are having. In my case, the system came back to life with a battery change. Did you make sure the battery wasn't in upside down? You can't tell by looking at the fob. Also, does your other fob work? If it does, at least you know its a bad fob and not the cars electrical system. They addressed the problem in 2010, and changed the fobs completely.

Ripplek,

Thank you for your answer. I did change the battery and the FOB is working fine (as long as I know), the red light in the FOB flashes every time i press a button.

I was able to get the Smart Key diagnostic step guide, so I took the car to an independent tech this morning. I Hope they find a solution to my problem.

Hi Limosh12,
Can you tell me where you got the smart key diagnostic literature or email a copy to me. I would really like to know how to reprogram my 2008 CX-9 smartkey. Thanks

bobdz32,
Send me your e-mail and I'll send you the document. Just for you to know, the documents gives you a step by step procedure to find a problem with a Smart Key. It will not help you to reprogram your Key!

Limosh,

The other day when trying to lock the doors with the black button I got 6 beeps as well. Got in the car and realized that the ignition was not turned all the way to the off position. Once I did that, the car locked. Might be something to look into.

I should add that I thought I had turned the ignition all the way off. It appeared to be between off and the first click. Just to clarify.
