In any case, dealership would charge $200 for "diagnosing" if they didn't get the job. In conclusion, they got the job and life moves on.
Ok well "midwest" is vague so I cant look up basic labor rates? And there is no way I can find what I would think is a qualified shop that could better do the service based on experience.

Your 2 ideas while they are good thoughts will likely not work and may cause damage to the lower crankcase. Re -read my last response and you will understand why?

If the shop you decided to attempt the repair I would request pictures of the finished R&R of the stud before they install the oil pan.

True it's a good idea to get a picture. In any case, Mazda dealership will take care of it and it doesn't matter now. What I'm still not getting is how could that bolt break! Mazda.

Case closed.

I suggested that you take specific pictures. Preferably high definition. Then I will have at least 80& indication (based on a picture not physically examining and testing the parts) as to the cause. While I have never used it on any vehcle forum, I do have a certification in Aircraft Structural Analysis. LOL

Another suggestion is to ask for the stud returned when they remove it and not loos the nut. I also forgot to mention to have them take a picture of the surface of the lower crankcase after they remove the stud. These are both very important.

The case is closed when your Mazda is returned and running!
