Water Pump Pulley
#2
Hi! Welcome to the forums!! If you could please put your cars info into your signature (year, model, engine, trans etc) it would help us all out
Sounds like something grenaded inside the pump enough to lock it up completely but without knowing which engine were dealing with I am just shooting in the dark

If it is the water pump pulley that seized, then yeah, something went wrong in there.
With that many miles, and if the water pump has never been replaced, it's definitely time to replace it.
As for it being 'more serious than a water pump issue', I couldn't say, but it'd be a good time to replace the timing belt and tensioner, if the 2.0 is similar to other mazda engines.
Were there any issues with overheating before it locked up?
