I have a Mazda Premacy 2.0L Diesel, someone tried to steal it and failed but snapped the steering lock off so I need the whole complete steering column to be replaced, Can anyone advise where I might find one. I have sourced a couple of petrol engine steering columns from two places but neither knew for sure if the petrol and diesel steering columns are compatible. I asked an online Mazda technical service and they said the part numbers for the two steering columns where different so he would think that they are specific to the engine.

It's an old car 2000-2001 reg Y304 LRR so my only option to get a replacement are breakers yards. I anyone can advise if the petrol version will work on a diesel or provide me with some advices as to where to look for one I'd really appreciate it. It only has 65k on the clock so there's a lot of life left in it yet if I can replace the complete steering column.
