97 Miata check engine light
I am a new member and also a new owner of a 97 Miata. The car runs great with no issues that I can see. My question is, yesterday I filled it with fuel and after noticed a check engine light. The fuel gauge was very, very slow to respond to full level when I got back in the car and I am wondering if fueling / or my fueling procedure had something to do with this. Also on this year can you jump the diagnostic pins for the check engine light to "blink" on the dash. (I have tried with no luck)
Thanks,

Your Miata has the OBDII system and you need to use a scanner to read the Digital Trouble Codes. Most parts store will do this for free.
Once you have the codes let us know. It will help figuring out what's wrong.

Thanks for the info, wasn't sure if 97 was OBDll or not but did resolve. Looks like when I fueled I was in the middle of an e-vap cycle / system loop, cleared codes and have driven car with no returning check engine light. If code returns my next stop will be to the local auto parts and have them run a scan tool on it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

As I said I'm a new member so here is a little background on me and my car. Have been a car guy all my life and work in engineering (R&D) @ Ford for 21 years. I own a 1997 Miata, red black leather with 97,000 on it. She is a beauty !
I also apologize if I have asked a question that has been asked many times, just figuring out how to navigate around the site.
