Default vibration
when I slow down the steering wheel shakes, but not horribly. I recently had an alignment and balance done but it was doing this before. what could it be?

Assuming you mean when you are braking, not just slowing down from taking your foot off the pedal, probably a warped rotor.

+1 on the warped rotor. Take it to a shop and see if they can turn it for you. If not, new rotors will be in order.
