Shifter no "p" indication
My 2012 6i is at times sluggish to move shifter into park. It is an AT trans. The car goes into park but the light doesn't illuminate. If I jiggle the stick sometimes it will light up. When I go to start the car if the park light isn't on it will not turn over. I override the shift lock put the car in neutral and it starts.
There are no MIL CEL indications.
Any ideas. I've read where it could be the cables or the neutral interlock.
Thanks for the input. Any questions please ask.

That's what I was thinking. I found very limited info on a few forums related to broken switch actuators or stretched cables. I'll open it up this weekend to see if there is anything obvious interfering ie coins, dirt...etc.
If I do replace the assembly, is there anything I need to do to ensure the cables don't change position or gears while disconnected?
Thanks for the assist.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. you shouldn't have to clean the actual cable, its a plastic bit at the end that connects to the tcm. Theirs a little metal paper clip retainer type of thing that goes through the plastic piece you just have to take that off and remove the cable. Then with the die grinder clean off the metal **** that the actual cable attaches to. just with like an abrasive disk on the die grinder. The problem with them is just that they begin to rust. I don't actually own a Mazda, I'm a tech at a Mazda dealer.
