Hello, I need some roof box advice from someone alot smarter than me. Got a trip to Europe planned and decided I need roof bars and a box for my 2013 mazda 6 saloon. I'm a complete newbie in this regard, no idea what I'm doing, and to prove it this evening I purchased from ebay a roof box I now believe is completely unsuitable. It's a kamei 460 (didnt pay a lot and it's close by for collection) but apparently it's 2.4m long so Firstly I'd be grateful for your opinion to confirm ive made a stupid / unsuitable purchase.
Secondly I have no idea what roof bars and attachments are suitable for my car. The roof has the plastic strips that i believe will be hiding the holes for the attachments, but what bars and attachments do I need? All help and advice will be gratefully recieved!! Thank you in advance! 2.4m x 0.75 a dumb roof box choice for my car?
Hi there! I fit these for a living. Could you clarify something about the plastic strips on the roof? Are there two on each side, roughly where the middle of the doors are that look like they pop out? Or do they run the full length of the car?
If it's the first option, I believe it would be a Mazda only fitment for your roof bars as most generic manufacturers don't seem to make one for that fitment type on that car, however I'm looking from the UK so it might be different in your country. They will be a set of bars that have a bolt that screws into the car under those strips (sometimes the holes are also hidden by painted putty) and have a boot to cover the bolt once fitted.
If it's the second option, there are many brands out there that sell bars for this fitment type, the 'feet' of these bars clamp onto the roof of the car just under the door frame.
As to a roof box, they can be fitted to the bars bespoke once on the vehicle, but the main point is that you don't have too much overhang, especially at the front of the vehicle, and arrange heavy items equally so as not to overweight the car. I would suggest not going over a 420litre size (again, that's what they're measured in here, hopefully that translates a little!).
