OUCH! Thule roof box breaks the factory roof bars?
Please help put my mind at ease.
I just bought a used Thule Atlantis 1600XT roof box for my 2014 Mazda CX-9 GT. The roof box weighs 42lbs empty and can carry a weight capacity of up to 110lbs of gear. I was researching using ChatGPT and it stated the factory roof rack/bars that is on my Mazda can carry max 100lbs.
If I calculate this correctly, I can only carry up to 58lbs of gear? (100lbs max load on factory Mazda roof rack - 42lbs of roof box = 58lbs)
Is this correct or have you carried more with no safety issues? Just want to reduce anxiety before driving from Virginia to the Florida Keys next month.
