Keyfob loses programming

Keyfob loses programming
So I purchased a new keyfob from the dealer. Went home and programmed it. Worked great.
locked the car when I got out with keyfob. Went back, unlocked with keyfob. Drove for 20 minutes, got out,
tried to get keyfob to work and, nothing. Tried to program again, won’t work. Crazy.
i remember years ago I purchased a keyfob and had the dealer program it.
Then that started with one keyfob but the other worked.
Is it losing the programming? If so , where does the problem lie?

It’s a 2009
also, I disconnected the battery and
reprogrammed and it started working again.
even though it’s a brand new unit, now it only works if the key is open, which is pretty odd.
not sure if it’s working today . Haven’t checked yet
