Default New Key

Hi all! i just brought a new 08 mazda3 2 week ago. this pass weekend i manage to lost the key and the clicker to the car while i was running in the downtown Denver neighborhood. Is there way to reset the car alarms frequency to a new one so if somebody else that forund my key and clicker could not be able to get in the car or start the car? and do you know how much it will cost?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I am beyond sad and upset over this...

I believe you have to go to the dealer for this. They are the only ones who will be able to take care of reseting the codes for the clicker. Also you will need to take your spare set with you as well.

Well the upside is you can program a new remote in yourself. You program all remotes in together so once you've added the new one the old one won't work. The downside is that the remote for the '08 costs $117 (from www.onlinemazdaparts.com). There are probably other sites that sell them cheaper, but the dealer would charge you more than Jason would.

The downside for your key is that unlike programming the remotes when programming keys you need to have at least two working keys in hand. If you only have one key then the dealer will have to plug into your computer and do the programming that way. I can't say what they'll charge for that, but probably way more than the 5 minutes it takes deserves.

My suggestion for you is to go ahead and buy two new keys. That way should you lose one later on you can just buy a new one and reprogram it yourself instead of having to deal with the dealer. Check out my thread HERE for more details on pricing and p/n's.
