Default Intermittent "No Start"

My wife has been having intermittent "no start" problems with her mazda 6 (3.0). She says it will crank maybe like one or two times and then just STOP cranking completely and then nothing.....no sounds. It usually will start again after 3-4 attempts with the same symptom occurring.

This problem usually happens after driving like 20-30 miles, or more and then shutting the car off, to go into a store, and trying to start it again.

It doesn't happen on cold starts or after short trips around town running errands.

Any ideas? I've been tempted to buy a new battery because this one "looks" old and it at least 5 years old (Deka battery) and nobody bothered to punch out the month and year of when it was bought.

Sounds like something is getting heat soak, start swapping relays. Definately get your battery tested to be sure.
