How to repair _that_ panel?
I am looking for the name of a particular interior panel on my 2006 Mazda 6. This is the panel at the front bottom corner of the front, right doorway. This is the panel that comes down from the dashboard and curves around to under the door-sill cover. This curved panel is loose. From what I can see, this panel has two attachments to the body of the car. The forward attachment, which I cannot see, is still holding. But the rear attachment, a pink plastic retainer, has pulled out of its hole in the wall of the car body. The retainer appears intact; I think it should still hold, if I could just get the retainer inserted into the hole. With all resources available on the Internet, I expect that there is some instruction out there somewhere that would show me how to reinstall this panel, but I cannot find any such resource. I expect that it would help if I knew the name of this panel. Does anyone know the name of this panel? Or, better yet, does anyone know of any instruction on how to work with this panel? TIA
Yes, "kick panel." That is the term. Here is a photograph of it. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ZLMAAO...EQU/s-l300.jpg
My kick panel has the trim fastener in it. The fastener is supposed to go into a hole in the wall, but the panel covers that whole section of the wall, and I cannot see the fastener go into the hole. For that reason I do not know if I have a worn fastener that is going into the hole and not holding, or if I am missing the hole altogether. I am thinking that, if I knew how the forward edge of the trim panel attaches to the wall of the car, maybe I could detach that edge and see how the panel fits into the fastener-hole.
