Default Changing the cluster panel

Hi:

I need to change my cluster panel. The thing is my car don't have warranty. I want to know if the millage is store on the cluster or on the car computer. And if I need to reprogram because I found a junk car with a good cluster.

Thank for the help

On most newer vehicles, it is stored in the computer, not on the dash readout.

You are right. It is stored on the computer but in the case of 6 and other newer Mazdas the computer is in the cluster. The instrument cluster is kind of the heart of the communication network for the vehicle. The other bad news is that the instrument cluster requires what is called programable module installation and this will have to be done at the dealer or someone else that has a $14,000 WDS diagnostic tool. The as built information programmed into the cluster needs to be downloaded onto the WDS and then uploaded into the new cluster. And am not sure if you can even upload into a used cluster. Have not ever replaced one so am not sure how that will work. Please post again if you have tried it and worked.
