trim panel around radio
#2
First remove the trim piece around the e-brake. Best way is to remove the 'thin' side first. That's the piece to the left of the handle, closest to the drivers seat. The piece your trying to remove has a couple of tabs that snap into corresponding holes. A great tool for this is a putty knife with a layer of masking tape around the edge of the blade. The trim piece will come off very easily, but it's still nice to have. (the attached pic is old, but I can still show you the kind of tabs/connectors you're working with)
I don't know if you have an auto or stick, but either way you'll need to remove your shift ****. If you have an auto, you need to leave your batter connected until this step because you will also need to move the shifter into R, N, or D in a couple of steps.
After you've removed the trim piece in the first paragraph, you're ready to move the one around the shifter. It's also held-in with tabs, but also has two square locating posts, one at each back corner next to the piece you previously remove. Be advised, these two tabs are the toughest, and having something like a long, skinny #1 screwdriver, or an awl or pick is the best way to 'open' them
Once you have that piece loosened, you'll need to unplug the light bulbs from it. They just turn 90 degrees or so.
This is where you need to still have the battery connected if it's an auto. Shift into N or R so you can lift the shifter surround straight up.
Once that plate is off, I believe you should see the screws at the bottom corner of the radio face plate you're trying to remove. You'll have a few inches of movement so you can unplug the HVAC controls. If you're going to be working-on the radio or ??, and you haven't done so already, go disconnect the battery.
Hope it helps. Biggest thing is- you're working with plastic, take your time and don't snap anything. Oh, and put something like a glove over the exposed shifter while you're removing the face plate so you don't scratch anything.
