Yes, the 3.0 V6 core is the Ford Duratec block, however, Mazda engineered and builds its own cylinder head and Variable Valve Timing system for that engine, and, I believe, the engine management electronics etc.

I had a duratec engine and I loved it...Porsche designed it initially? So the 2007 line-up will go down to a 3 year/36,000 bumper-bumper warranty...why is mazda doing this? I mean, I imagine to save money and such, but I first went with the mazda beacuse of the 4 year, 50,000 miles warranty...
My wife and I just bought a '05 6i sport and one of the reasons was the transfer of the 4/50. We have the remaining bumper to bumper waranty until January '09.
