I suppose that will be the easy bit, judging by the number of posts and general dismay at the Mazda attitude towards the problem we will be in for a long struggle. I will post the results of the inspection when known, you never know it might help.By the way stay clear of Trinity Mazda, Hinckley awful service dept.

Trinity were great for me - if you think they are bad you should try Coventry or Leamington !!!!

A.

Just the sports.

Its a great car though apart from this 1 issue so its up to you to decide.

Hi - I own a 55 plate 2.0l sport petrol, 40k on the clock - and am having the fifth set of tyre fitted today. Have used 2 set of dunlop 2050's fitted by Mazda plus recently (6 months ago) had Goodrich fitted at recommendation of independant supplier. MOT today and when told fronts cmpletely bald on inside and backs barely legal on inside I am dissappointed to say the least. In Nov 2007 my dealer was supporsed to have made a "fix" to the geometry problems - this has obviously not worked - are Mazda UK really oing to make an offer of any sorts - do I need to retain the tyre being replaced today? - or should I sign up to the watch dog petition?

Other than tyres the car is great - wife keeps knocking into things though even with lady parking sensors fitted. Would buy again but only if tyre issue sorted.

Hi I can't beleive this after 3 months a lot of phone calls I've just been told I can have 2 new front tyres I'm going to get them changed quick before they change there mind.
After alot of phone calls i found out that if you have bought a mazda5 on hire purchase that part of the conditions on your hp cover you but you have to contact your local trading standards office for a start then your hire purchase company mazda still dont want to now but the supply dealer gave authorized new tires within 30 minutes.
In the end ive gone for continental contact so hopefully these will last a while the cars been laser aligned so time will tell.

That's good as that is part of the Terms and Conditions of your hire purchase agreement. Do let us know in due course how you Continental tyres fair on the inner edge in 6 to 10000 miles (the grip in wet and dry and on painted lines). I am in a similar situation but I am still pursuing the fault as a matter of course as a health and safety issue with this particular car that can cause us to crash in the future. See the picture of my replaced first replaced tyres. I want to go back to Dunlop 2050, as the Dunlop Sport Maxx are abysmal in performance (no grip in dry even, in this country (UK)). See on the second picture that there is the uncrayoned band, that I must assume, when fitted to car and loaded, must 'stick out' further than the rest of the tyre to result in this extra worn band when removed from the Mazda 5. I would hope to have the replacement authorised very shortly. I emailed them with pictures on Thursday. I will not embarrass Mazda by turning up and having them lie about it not being worn or indeed dangerous, giving their unsupported claims that it is either over inflated or under inflated, excessive speed in cornering or the state of our roads. Neither of which has evidence or symptons to indicate any of their 'claims'. The symptoms I see and feel are that this car has an incorrect camber. Because all they will do is photograph the legal tread pattern and measure tread depth.

Well WRX it's strange how these things go, we have had great service from Coventry over the last 4 years.

Anyway - no suprise in the report, wheels all aligned within tolerance so it must be "under inflation" I can't see it myself as I check the tyres every week and they are very rarely below spec. i am not quite sure where to go with this one now, I shall probably get the tyre checked by an independent tyre dealer and see if they have any other assesment.

If it was under inflation the tyres would be worn on both outer edges of each tyre, and more so on the outer, for the obvious reasons. I just came back from Kwik fit and they said 2050 are not available. I don't want Dunlop Sport Maxx. Any suggestions? I'm looking up information now as to what to get. Bear in mind if I pick tyre not to Mazda's liking they will blame future wear on my choice of tyre.

Hello,

Have been considering buying a Mazda5 sports lux, and am dismayed to find this thread.
I have been unable to find any information (in this thread or on web) to say if this tyre problem has been resolved in newer models?
Was considering either a new car or one up to 12 months old. Any information would be helpful, as after reading this I'm not sure phoning Mazda would get me a truthful answer.

Thanks

Some say yes but the 3 people (including myself) posting previously on this page all have post '08 facelift models with the problem so I would say no.

The official answer as to whether the problem has been solved for the 2008- mazda 5 model with inner edge front tyre wear is NO! Simply because Mazda, as yet, have not recognised that there is a problem with the front wheel geometry for vehicles fitted with 17" wheel. Therefore they will have done nothing to cure it. Other than this worry the car is fine, no, great. So as long as you monitor the front inner edge (see previous picture so you know how far on the edge it is). By the way if you are after a new car, you could use this oppertunity to ask about the problem and get some proof if they claim it's cured. But beware a 'savvy' seller may palm you off with the 2007 facelift and Sport model rear tyre wear issue. They also hide or delay the problem by swapping front wheels with rear wheels (where they wear less) making it seem you get better mileage out of a set of tyres. Does anyone know of an official reason why they change the wheels around at 8000 (or what ever it is)?
I spent most of last nigth trying to choose suitable tyres. But they all had some drawback, either not Z rated or not the high enough load rating, or 'summer' tyres (like the Dunlop (Sport maxx TT) bizarrely. The man at Dunlop Says 2050 are still made (no official or recognised enhancenment). Was looking too at run-flat tyre tyres for the possible front tyre failure to worn tyres but similar problems as above and not the right size too (205/50 Z 17"). I have notice blistering and bubbling of wheel paint too now. Because of the price of diesel try to work out whether petrol or diesel is better value for money if you are to sell after 3 years say (given the worry of tyre wear) with the price different between both engine versions... I get a real overall average of about 30MPGin a petrol. Others will get more, I suspect Mine is the worse case example.
