Hi Matt,

I think that disputing the credit card payment is a great idea. Just wish I'd thought of it...
Mazda's handling of this problem is scandalous. I reallywouldn't have believed that any company could actin such a way and I'mshocked that they're still trying to treat their customers like idiots. I wrote to them about a month ago and they haven't even had the courtesy to reply...hope you have more joy.

Nice one! Thankfully I have a decent dealer who only takes for the % I owe them....
If only all dealers were as thoughtful!

Default UK mazda 5 tyre wear solved?

Thought I would start a new topic for this rather than add to the ever growing tyre wear topic I started some time ago.

Anyway, I duly had all 4 tyres replaced in February and had the alignment fix of 2mm toe-in on all 4 wheels to cure the inner tread wear. My dealer couldn't source Dunlops so I have ended up with equivalent Continental ContiSport Contacts. I have now done 6000 miles on these tyres and low and behold the b*****y things are wearing on the outside (particularly the fronts) - a symptom of too much toe-in! Tread depth measurements are 3mm outside edge, 7mm inside edge on the fronts.

Anyone else finding a similar problem with having the toe-in fix?

I give up with the Mazda 5. Good car in parts (especially sliding rear doors) but the tyre wear and heavy fuel consumption (30mpg: 2L '06 petrol Sport - diesel doesn't seem much better to warrant additional purchase cost from reading an earlier thread) I cannot live with any longer. Will look to get rid of in August and it won't be a Mazda that I will be buying And yes, I suffer from paint chipping and scratching mentioned in other threads. I also have a creaking clutch pedal and squeaking front seat belt which drive me mad as well.

Other than that everything is fine!

Well that worked!

Had a chat with the dealer yesterday - was pretty irate so the poor guy had a bit of a lambasting. I do have sympathy for the dealers as it's Mazda UK who are putting them in the middle of this - really Mazda UK should fund the replacement of the tyres so that neither the dealers or customers are out of pocket.

Anyway...end result is that my claim has been expedited and Mazda UK have agreed the level of contribution- money to be credited back to my Visa card today.....so tyres were fitted on Tuesday and the % split sorted out by Thursday. Has ended up with me effectively paying for one tyre out of the four - not unreasonable given that I've had 12,000 miles..and I've ended up with Sports Maxx tyres at trade cost.

So hats off to the dealer for sorting it out quickly .... and for removing the need for me to action the Visa dispute.

Hello again fellow sufferers, not been on for a while and noticed the growing list - Just to update my situation, now I've bypassed the useless MMUK customer service and just ring Jon Smith directly things have progressed a fair bit since last time. If you phone John directly he's actually a decent guy - had the rears changed at no cost with no messing, they even sent up a Maxda engineer to the dealer to make geometry adjustments. The only bad points are that the 'specialist' couldn't come up with a reason why the fronts failed at 6.5k miles and that the problem only affects the rears... mmm now that is reassuring, and not exactly true if other posts are true? I've had the endless blaming of Dunlop and the new tyres are much better together with 'its all dependent on the way you drive' - and I've been told that it is my responsibility to be checking my tyres regularly, which considering the messing around I've endured was really helpful (not.) To cap all that, I'm still waiting for a contribution from Mazda for the 2 fronts that I forked out for ages ago.

All in all, some progress, Jon Smith is a decent guy and I guess just like the dealers they're in an impossible situation if Mazda as a whole want to keep this under the carpet. I'm sticking with it for a few months to see if the wear issue has improved but if it hasn't I'll be, sadly, getting rid - just no idea what I'd get in its place!

...and re the posting on poor paint finish, mine is terrible (which was the reason it went into the dealership in the first place when the tyre issue was identified.) I was told that it was 'wear and tear' (after 6 months!!)... and the best bit was being instructed how to correctly use a sponge to wash it - no joke!

Just cashed in on my free 25k service (for my inconvenience), so that is £250 back off the £400 I paid for a full new set of tyres.
I am about to get my £200 tyre contribution back too. Had held off until now in the hope that Mazda would 'do the right thing', however I am losing heart/patience so am going to cash in.
So economically, I've got about £450 back for a £400 outlay in new tyes.

I got my car back last week from getting 12,500 mile service and was told that the tyres on the front were geting low on tread on the outside and insideedges again i replaced front and backtyres because of tyre problem about 4,000 mles ago as yet the back seem ok {fingers crossed } front and rear tyres were set at 33psi as i was told by garage and is in the book and that wasalso pressure when i first got car. Iasked the service manager if it was true what i had heard which was the mazda5 and the ford S max was indeed the same car i was told this was true mazda and ford worked together on this car so i then asked that why is it that the mazda5 tyre pressure is set to 33psi and if you look in the ford S max brochure there is a page which shows you a picture of all round tyre pressure of the S max and this is set at 37psi i was then told to try inflating front to 36psi and see how i got on with this but leave back lower as there is not the weight of engine there

I still wonder how long Mazda are going to allow unsuspecting Mazda 5 owners drive around on dangerous tyres?
This is made even more dangerous because of the fact they seem to be so sure that they have a final fix.

I think that they owe all Mazda 5 owners a duty of care to notify them and preform the fix to prevent any further wear.

Curious though when I checked my tyres after the third set was fitted the fronts were @ 29.5 and 30.4 respectively and the rears were both at 31.5.

Naturally I have inflated them up to 35 all round now.

We're new members here because it seems we have the same tire problem in Canada. Only at my dealership, there's another one I heard. The operation's manager is starting to compile the facts tosend it to Mazda Canada. Our 5 is exactly one year old, with 22000 km (about 15000 mi),the tires are worn the same way that all of you mention. I did notread all the 26 pages of the replies, but are there any other Canadian or American owners with this problem?
Next thing: we haveanother problem, occuring sporadicallywith the transmission gear shifting, from 1to2, or 2 to3, when the engine is cold, when it's humid, the engine chokes like a beginner driver on amanual transmission(but I'm a driver-trainer on heavy vehicule...) . It could be also a problem with the engine ( fuel relays, I don't know). My dealership did not see anything, but the problem can happen once andappear a week later if not a month later, even in summer time.Has someone experienced this kind of problem with the mazda 5?
