Default Remote start and ignition cylinder

Hi, New here. Bought a used 5, 2007 and it came with a separate remote start fob (older kind). Well, the plastic ring on the ignition cylinder broke (probably cost 10 cents) so I had Mazda replace the whole ignition lock cylinder and it appears I have lost the remote start function. Mazda said it was probably a feature that was in the old cylinder. Anyone know??? Also, the new keys that it came with start the car but the metal key does not unlock the door. Do I have to hire a locksmith to cut the key (which I had to do with the old key) or should Mazda do that for me?? I have had so many issues with this car!

They should of spoken to you before replacing the ignition barrel that the door locks will need recoding.

Yes find a automotive locksmith, all they do is remove the door barrel & rearrange/replace the tumblers inside to match your ignition key.

In hindsight, they should of recoded the new ignition to your existing keys.

Unfortunately I only had one functioning key for the old ignition so I'm glad to have 2 now but Now I'm back to the situation I had a few years ago where one key unlocked the door and the other started the engine. I went to a locksmith and he made me one fully functional key. This key stuff is a rip off!!

I went to a locksmith store near my office and they refused to make a function key and it ended up getting a key from the dealer.

Try getting a spare key from any locksmith around you and use it in an emergency when the original won't work with the ignition.
