Any tips on improving gas milage?
Our 5 is primarily my wife's car... and she drives like grandma (presuming your grandma isn't into autoX).
She also claims she is only getting 19mpg.
Anything I can look at to try to get better MPG?
Already planning on changing to Mobile 1, tire presser is good.
Thanks in advance!

As for 19 miles per gallon, depending upon the traffic she encounters, that could be considered great economy or horrible economy. How does your Mazda5 perform from a fuel economy perspective when on a long highway trip when running at a constant speed?

1st things first, has it had full & regular servicing? How old are the spark plugs? Coils &/or leads? How old is the Air & fuel filters? Is the throttle body & MAF clean? Is the PCM software up to date? Is the compression good? O2 sensors functioning properly? Any fault codes in the PCM? Is it Auto or Manual trans?
When she claims 19mpg, what calculations have been made to justify that?
Start with a full tank of fuel, reset the trip meter, drive until the fuel light comes on, or close to it, refill it the the full mark, record the trip meter miles. Now you have raw data to make a accurate calculation of miles per gallon.

It is a 2013 with 60K miles and a auto trans.
I have been driving Hyundai's for 20 years and just presumed modern cars get 80-100K miles out of spark plugs, coils, leads, O2 sensor, etc.
Guess we will have to take it into the dealer to get the PCM checked for fault codes etc.
Thanks for the help!
PS: My wife has a bachelors degree in business and I'm pretty sure she has calculated MPG before.

I have a 2007 Mazda 5 and replaced the spark plugs when it reached 80K miles. Made the car run smoother and gas mileage went up 1-2mpg city. I would also clean the throttle body. You will be surprised how much dirt accumulates even with 60K miles.
