then some suggest that Mazda has stated , and again it all goes back to where the end vehicles are sold and the basic viscosity charts.

So here is some info nerds, owners, DIY and members don’t really want to learn about. The engine parts on a Skyactiv engine that oil has an effluence are nothing special. The oil control rings nothing really new or special material or some new concept, the valve guides , nope , the valve seals again nope , the oil pump nope nope nope. Having taken several apart to pull back the curtain and mystery I only found just another average engine . In as far as oil effect on it . . The magic is in the ECU programing and the cams and yup u guessed it the viscosity has little to nothing to give except for the estimated mpg if you use the 0w20. But for overall best engine protection in most all operating climates 5w30 is universally a better choice. Who cares if you loose up to an about 1/3rd drop in mpg over all and you emission may ever so slightly be higher but still well within the values that EPA required and your engine will run better overall.

Now if there is another member that has torn down a Skyactiv engine and found something to the contrary please I like to rear about it. Or did some ECU Data logging and compared PID operation using different oil viscosity please tell me what they were and the operational perimeters the ECU adjust engine operations? Cuzzzz I can’t see them when I specifically looked.
Hello; Did not know it was become a can of worms. I was just curious as to why the salesman pointed such out. I will prefer using 5-w-30 if such is allowed by the owner's manual. I try to comply with factory recommendations while under factory warranty. I have a supply of 5-w-30 oil on hand so that would make it simple.

I understand the heavy hand of alphabet agencies has influenced automakers. Thin oils to only slightly improve efficiency, if at all over tried and true 10-w-30. The thin oils being suspected of engine damage. Another is the start-stop at red lights which must take a toll on starters.

Then the one I like the least which is cylinder deactivation. I checked to see if that wrong-headed technology was on the Mazda 3 naturally aspirated four cylinder. I am assured the 2026 does not use it even tho the 2025 had it.
Thanks for the reply.

A salesman/woman as a general description are no in any way usually educated in the auto motive service or automotive engineering field of study !!
I am and also for a short time actual was a new car salesman LOL
The rest of your information whatever the source is flawed. And as I said this subject has been hashed over various vehicle related forums for a decade or more. Same questions and the same empirical and fact-based answers when you weed through the internet surfers and DIY owners.
The owners manual clearly states the exact wording "RECOMMED" in various area pertaining to some information this includes service intervals and choice of OIL viscosity unless the exact wording states "REQUIRED"!
I have used a variety of different viscosities and even had a few of the oil analysis performed. So based on that I use the viscosity that meets my driving style for the period of time or the operating environment in which case 0w-20 is not the top used by me ever. And I have posted several oil and filter services on my persona Mazda on this forum.

The technology on starters and the material used to manufacturer them in the last 3 decades or more concerning and wear for stop starts is marginal at best in fact more than likely will have very little effect to support a thought of starters failing prematurely with start top engines.
Of all the failed parts, staters are one of the least parts we replace annually on any platform, model vehicle manufactured from at least the year 2000 possibly longer. I don't keep that close a watch on part replacement facts LOL
I will state that I have observed a sooner than normal wear pattern on the flywheels (manual Trans) Flex plate (automatic trans) with start stop engine vehicles. Personally, i think you would rather replace a starter over a flywheel or flex plate, both require either the transmission be removed or the engine to replace them.

You can find USB C thumbdrives pretty cheap. I got a 512GB thumbdrive for my Volvo with FLAC music files on it. I think I paid $30 for it. I also have a 256GB USB C drive with WMA files on it. Honda doesn't support FLAC or WAV or any other lossless standard with their radios. I rip CD's to my computer in FLAC and convert what I need to other standards using FREAC file converter. I know its a pain to do all this but a thumb drive holds all my music that would otherwise be on 100's of CD's. Good luck with your endeavor.
