Stoplight fuse keeps blowing
I used the same gauge wire (16 ga) as the existing wires. I'm wary of changing gauges between wires because of resistance and heat. Going to a lower gauge might have worked but I only like to repair once and forget about it then to try something different that may work but will always be on the back of my mind.
You never go smaller gauge wire from the OEM. Your repair is good.
Also remember to change the fuse for the back up lights as well. That was blown as well. On a side note, I thought the Mazda was running a little loud and might need an oil change. I use synthetic oil with a quart of Lucas thrown in every 10K miles. I found out that when coming from a 2024 Volvo XC60 to a 2006 Mazda3 with 260K miles, it's going to be louder in comparison. I have the hybrid Volvo (and it is whisper quiet in battery mode and barely audible as a hybrid) and I average around 40 mpg on any trips under 200 miles. The battery is only good for 40 miles before it changes to hybrid mode. But man is that thing fast, with both gas and electric I have 450 HP. I've been nearly at 85 mph just on a on ramp. Cops just profile Volvo drivers as docile and obedient, but man it is so easy to be at 90 mph without really noticing ( just like a Tesla).
The reports from parts of the automotive industry that do not really participate in media have some very doubtful information that more or less they came to soon and the complete research engineering and development was premature.
I think if you did a little checking with such business as towing in your country you may learn a thing not noticeably reported about when they do break down out in the real world on the road.
So don't give up your day job on gasoline serving vehicles yet!
