Default Shudder on startup??

Have a 2006 m3 touring with 2000 miles. Wondering if this was normal. When i start car for first time of the day car revs about 1800-2000 rpms then gives a little shudder as it kicks down. After I put in drive it will smooth out and idles normal.

Default RE: Shudder on startup??

turtles70, this is normal for any car. the way electronic components and mechanical componetns workare based off this principal. when all the components are started in the car at the exact same time, it requires alot of power to start all of the components, thus making the alternator work fairly hard, henceforth, the engine revs to give the alternators enough power to start all the components. in the manual for the car, it says to wait 10 seconds after starting the car to put it gear, this is so all the components will have time to even out and your engine will idle down.

my SP23 idles around 750 RPM, it moves around down there can vary betweeb 800 and 650, like you can feel the car shake a little because it is at the bear minumum the car can idle (mazda was trying to save gas!!!) but it is nothing to worry about, just the way the car is designed and how the components work together!
