Was the Mazda 3 shown at the 2007 Geneva Auto Show the next gen Mazda 3 (2009 launch)?

Well aside from the wheels it just looks like a 2007 GT w/ NAV. I don't know if they're planning a complete redesign, or if they're just going to do another facelift to keep things "modern".

ORIGINAL: UrbanmanUSA

I have read in several places that a redesign is in the works for the 2009. Does this mean in calendar 2009 (making it a 2010 model year car), or a 2009 model year car? Unknown.

I havealso read thatMazda isworking ona flex-fuel engine, and a diesel engine (at least for Europe)... maybe one or both of these engines will be in the next generation 3.

There will also verysoon be a Mazda 2 ... a small vehicle with a 1.3 engineto compete with Honda Fit and the Toyota Yaris. Timeline not certain, but maybe within the next year. This being the case, you would think whatever they do with the Mazda 3, it will remain about the same size as it is now.
No idea on the redesign or when it will happen. Mazda already has several diesel engines available. They've had a 1.6L turbo, and they just released a 2.0L turbo but only in Europe. I'd love to have one (well if I were in an area where bio-diesel was sold anyway) but I'm not sure how ready for small turboed cars the US is. I realize that there are several on the market, but not nearly as many as there are in Europe already.

Oh and the Mazda 2 has been around for awhile in other countries.
