Shipo's oil advise is right on. As to idling for 1-2 minutes, not necessary; however, it is not a bad idea to idle the car for 10-15 seconds before shutting down after a long highway drive or hard run.

thanks so much for the advice.

just picked up the car on friday and had it for the weekend. (so f-ing in love with this thing) and i found out that the kid had an Injen SP cold air intake on it, boosting the HP up around 300.... the driver's seat is my new happy place. the car is insane.

you guys are really helping me get initiated here. i really needed (and appreciate) that.

^^ What they said about pretty much everything. On the idling issue I'll echo Shipo in that you don't have to sit and idle, however after having driven the engine hard give it a chance to cool the turbo down before everything stops spinning. So if you drove on the highway super fast and then drove lightly for a mile or so before parking you'd probably be fine. What you want to avoid is getting everything super hot and immediately turning off the engine. Side note, I'm a paramedic and ambulances have built in high idles to make sure the battery voltage stays up (especially important when parked with the emergency lights on) while parked. It pisses me off to no end when the truck's sitting there at 1500 rpms and some jackass reaches in an cuts off the ignition because the sound is annoying him (happens a lot with security guards and valets) since it never has a chance to cool off before they killed it.

On the CAI I somehow doubt that it added 30 some odd HP to the stock engine. I could be wrong I suppose, but I just don't think their gains are quite that much.

Regardless welcome to the forums and congrats on the purchase. I highly recommend purchasing a third key for your car ASAP. The short reason is if you have two keys you can program in additional keys (up to 8) for free. If you have only one key the dealer has to program in a second key and will charge you lots of $$ to do it. So if you have three and lose one you can just pick up another one and do it again. If you have two and lose one...... you see where I'm going here.

Also depending on your location I recommend looking into retrofitting heated side glass into your side mirrors. All of the wiring is in the car up to where the mirror housing plugs into the car's harness. So pick up the glass (about $80 total) and run about 12" of wire through each housing and you're done. It's a simple mod that makes a big difference not only in snow/ice, but even with fog or rain accumulation.

Agreed; the sales bilge from the various CAI makers out there not withstanding, a CAI on a modern turbocharged car might yield another ten horsepower, and even then only at wide-open-throttle (and I think ten is being generous). That said, if the engine is chipped enabling it to run at a higher level of boost, then the thirty horsepower thing is a lead-pipe cinch.

thanks so much on the comments and recommendations. glad to be here. that's not going to be necessary, since i'm living in Puerto Rico; a tropical island.

my biggest worry is the puddling and flash-flood risk. I know if water gets in that intake, i'm screwed. does anyone have a suggestion on what mods (if any) i could do to perhaps change the location of the intake?

Were I in your shoes this would be a "no-brainer"; I'd put the factory intake back on in a heart-beat. If you do it is extremely unlikely you'll notice any difference in your car except that it may operate a bit quieter.

If it's an SRI, as you would find on most turboed models, then you should be good to go. An SRIs' filter ends inside the engine compartment.
If a CAI and you live in an area that gets lots of rain, the stock box would be one option. So would a filter sock.

thanks again.

since i don't have access to the original stock part, would this be a good call? (they call it a hydrosheild, but it's the "sock" you're talking about, right? (sorry, man... i'm SO much a troglodyte on this, it's almost embarrassing)
