Audio intermittently cutting out on 2006 Mazda 3
A few months ago I picked up a used 2006 Mazda 3, which had a slight issue with the audio.
All audio will intermittently cut out completely; radio, CDs, AUX, everything. The stereo is on, but there is nothing coming from the speakers, not even static.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it cuts out, or cuts back in. Sometimes it will be on for five minutes and cut out, sometimes it will be on for hours at a time, sometimes it will be out for hours at a time.
When I got the car I did remove the stereo unit to connect an AUX cable, but it was having audio issues BEFORE this as I remember double checking everything was securely plugged in to the back.
I know there is wiring (and the amp?) under the passenger seat and at one point I noticed the radio was on for longer when I had a passenger, and when I moved the seat up or fiddled with it... BUT I haven't been able to replicate that so it is entirely possible it was just a coincidence.
I called a local Mazda dealer, but it might be up to $250 as a "diagnosis fee" alone, so I am hoping this is something I can look into myself, if anyone here has any advice or thoughts on what it might be. Thanks!
