Default How do you remove the stereo in 2004 MPV?

I have spent two hours trying to figure out how to remove the stereo in my wife's 2004 MPV. I'm afraid I'm going to break something. Does anyone have some step-by-step instructions for removing the stereo in this model?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Troy

Remove the steering column covers. Only three phillips screws and they will pull apart. Removing this allows clearance for next step.
Take the trim cover off that surrounds the audio unit and extends accross to the left side dash vent. Two phillips screws above the instrument cluster and then pull straight out towards you. If you will turn the two dash vents on either side of the radio inwards you will have a great pull handle for that side and turning the left dash vent outward will allow you to pull out the left side.
Once that is out of the way there are only 4 phillips screws and audio unit will pull straight out

Thanks babyhuey for the great information. I was trying to get the radio out so I could look at the back to see if there is a way to hard-wire my wife's Sirius satellite radio. Her stereo has the button for TAPE/AUX but she doesn't have a tape deck or any AUX device so I was hoping to make the satellite radio the AUX device. Do you have any suggestions or experience in what I'm trying to do?

Thanks again for the great information.

You would probably not be able to wire it in to be able to use the AUX button unless you bought the Mazda satellite radio kit for $380. In order to utilize the TAPE/AUX button you would have to tap into the connector for the lower tape deck module connector which would be close to impossible. Post of pic of this connection below. Audio unit out of a 6 but connection the same.

There is a company out there who has a product called Aux-Mod that taps into the tape/aux button and provides a 3.5mm line input. They have a basic model, that sounds like what you are looking for, and are working on an advanced model that will connect to portable mp3 players (can you say "iPod"?) and pass mp3 information to the display. The company is called Sylfex, and there website is http://www.sylfex.com/ I have not tried their product, but I am anxiously awaiting the advanced model.

My wife's 2003 MPV stereo has both a Tape/AUX button and a "MD" button (assuming it's MiniDisc). I was thinking there might be some RCA inputs for the MD button? To good to be true? I'd love to integrate my iPod.

I did the samething on a 05. Remove the radio and see what the back looks like. I unplug the thing and took it out. I went and put it back in and the thing will not come on. The eject button works. Does Mazda have a radio code to activate the stero again?
If so, does any one have the direction on how to enter the code?
I looked at the sylfex site. They are out of stock. Its like an adeptor that lets you plug an audio R/L to the tape/Aux button. No text display. Cost $60.
