Default Alarm horn goes off due to hood latch sensor problem

My 2011 Mazda 3 alarm goes off almost everytime after locking the car. I took it to the Mazda dealer months ago and they said it was due to the hood latch sensor; the repair was rather expensive. Is this an easy repair to make myself or even better, can the sensor be removed from the system; either by disconnecting or by jumpering so that the alarm system is "fooled" and operates properly?
