My 2008 Tribute with 30,000 miles has a lot of road tire noise in the cab.
The Continental original tires are part worn ,but not 65% worn yet.
Anyone have a recomendation for replacement tires that are quiet ?

Use Uniroyal Laredo. I put them on my 01 Tribute at 35k and now have 90k and over half the tread. Very quiet too!

 

Your Continentals will continue to get louder and louder. By the time I got rid of mine at 47K, I was starting to get a headache from the noise. The tire surfaces become cupped like a shallow "u". This is what generates the noise and vibration you may be feeling through the steering wheel and pedals.

I switched to a set of Cooper Discoverers. They started off very quiet, but have become progressively louder over time. They are not as loud as the Continentals, but the noise is the same. I am assuming they will gradually become worse and worse as well. Right now, they are about half worn with 25,000 miles on them. The Coopers tread surfaces are starting to become cupped in the same way as the Continentals. I am not sure if this is a design issue with the vehicle or if I just happened to have purchased another set of tires susceptible to cupping.

The only good thing about the tires cupping is that the edges of the treads rise higher than the middle, creating a tread surface that is great for snow traction. I pull a snowmobile trailer down snow covered roads and rarely does the AWD kick in.

 

I got rid of my tires on a 2002 because of the cupping and resulting noise after 24,000 miles. I thought I had a wheel bearing problem. I purchased a set of Futura tires from Pep Boys here in Maryland. They have just over 50,000 miles on them and are still smooth and quiet. I get them rotated and balance with oil changes, every 6000 miles or so.

I have not heard anything good about the stock Continentals.

 

For the folks living in cold climate, the Nokian WR are an awsome investment. My 2001 Tribby was originaly equipped with some Firestone Wilderness junk tires that did not last long. Car was purchased Oct 2000. New Nokian WR set end 2002 beginning 2003. Exceptional ice/snow/wet grip. Superior dry pavement traction. Over 50% left on the threads so far. No road noise.
