Keys stuck in ignition when in 'Park
Mazda Tribute 2002. When place in 'park' the square that is suppose to show around the 'P' does not show. I am unable to remove keys from ignition. All fuses are good. Any Ideas?

Don't need a locksmith
Had this happen in South Dakota while on vacation....this forum saved me tons o money...the gear shift has an interlock if not all the way forward to make electrical contact the keys cannot be removed. Had to push hard to get the key to come out. Once home pulled the center console apart had to "adjust" the gear lever with a bar and bench vise. Never had the problem again, the gear lever was just bent too far forward thus no contact with the sensor. Sorry this is so late 6 months.

This is an old thread, but is a top result (even when googling 2010 Mazda 6) and is valid even more as the cars are getting older.
The solenoid that does the key locking has not been changed in the last 50 years so what I experienced with my 2010 Mazda 6 should be pretty universal:
At the back side of the ignition cylinder is a small solenoid that has a pin which is engaged when not in Park.
When you go into Park, the solenoid turns off, and the pin falls down under it's own weight.
The thing is: the solenoid is attached under 45 degree and is not dustproof. So, a bit of dust, and the fact the pin already has some traction, and you'll get a pin that doesn't come down when solenoid is disengaged..
For my Mazda this solenoid is not a separate part number but is a part of the ignition cylinder. So I've bought the cylinder of eBay and took only the solenoid.
But you can just remove the solenoid but then it's dangerous - you are able to take out your key even if not in Park.

I had this problem a few months ago. It turned out to be a penny that fell into the opening of the gearbox in front of the gear lever. This prevented the gear lever from moving fully forward, which in turn prevented the key from turning to the OFF position due to the lock and lock function.
