Hi all
I have an 02 tribute. My first Mazda and I love it. But sometimes it doesn't seem to go into park property and then we can't get the key out. In the past when this has happened I've just restarted the car moved the transmission shift into gear then back into park and it disengages. However my hubby drove it tonight and we still can't get it into park properly so we can remove the key. Please help with some suggestions.

 

I've seen a few issues with the gear selector on the Steering column. Usually, when they pack-up/break, you can't get it out of park.

 

Thankfully that's not the issue. After doing some research we think it's either a solonoid or micro switch problem.

 

The micro switch is in the gear selector on the column. If you don't act fast, it may pack up and strand you.
