There would be a pressure switch to boost the idle for more output at low revs

This is on the V6

I tend to agree with you but mine started surging a month or so ago, I have checked and re gaped all plugs checked and re-plenished the electrical contact paste on each coil on plug, also checked wiring harness so might try disconnecting the plug and see what effect it has.

What work did they bill you for?
Specifically for replacement of a power steering switch. Unfortunately, I'm not mechanically skilled so that's how it was explained to me by the mechanic and listed on the billing paperwork. Whatever it was resolved the surging issue but for all I know he could have just been trying to layman explain it.

I do not think pressing the brake would actually have a reason to be the cause except where the vacuum booster is leaking then it would be lean all the time,
I think a faulty pressure switch would send a fluctuating signal to the idle control valve if it is the cause and mainly noticeable when stopped at light etc so coincides with brake pedal being pushed
