Default 03 Mazda tribute lunges when brake pedal is pressed....

It has a V-6 engine, it has the all wheel drive when the selector switch is turned inside the car. Automatic tranny.

After I have driven the car on the interstate for a few miles and I exit the interstate and come to a stop light/stop sign, when I step on the brake pedal when I'm just about to stop, the engine accelerates and the car lurches forward, or tries to except I step on the bake pedal harder.

It'll continue to do this until I shut the car off and it has sat for awhile. I think it might have something to do with the engine getting warmed up because if I start the car and just drive around town, which is at a much slower speed, the problem-the lunging/engine accelerates when the brake pedal is pressed, never happens.

Any ideas what might be causing this? My local auto mechanic doesn't know. They've checked the throttle sensor and say it's fine. When I brought it to the mechanic, the problem wasn't happening so it's hard to troubleshoot a problem when it's not happening.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

There was a recall for that in 05 for 2002-2005 models. The accelerator cable had to be replaced because it was not returning to idle. Might be worth checking out.

Good info, hixx!!
Blackink, type in recalls.gov in a blank window, locate the autos section and type in your car's VIN. The site not only has all the information from all national recalls, but with the VIN can tell you if your particular vehicle was ever done. If not, Mazda/Ford owes you, free of charge.
