No Spark Car turns over wont start
We drove over to a friends house. turned off the car... now it wont start...
it turns over, wont start. I would like to do some basic diagnostics on it with a multimeter..
Can some one give a rundown on the steps.
The distributer cap was shot... so I replaced it.... What is up with the rotor?
It is not sloted... it can go on three possible ways...... I think it is on correct...
Anyway, there is no spark.... on the secondary.......
I would like to test the primary in the distributor
and primary to the coil...... the coil itself.......
and then there is something called a power unit near the coil.....
Thanks, Nomen

RE: No Spark Car turns over wont start
yeah, I ended up trying that just to rule that out....
Here is some other stuff have done.
I put the jumper in between ten and ground and checked the CEL.........
the code I get is two short blinks over and over again...
I am figuring this to be 02 which in hayes is NE something....
pertaining to distrbutor and pcm circuit and components.
I do get 12 + volts on positive at Coil and Coil resistance checks out
to be ok... primary and secondary........ So I am figuring Ignition switch is good also.
However, the negative side of the terminal for the coil, I tried to get it to make a test light
blink while hooked to positive from battery while cranking... it didn't blink.....
Is that the correct method to check the primary circuitry?
ALSO----- here is what I think is the culprit.....
Please correct me if I am astray......
read somewhere.... to check the distributor(the pickup) remove
the connecter and check for resistance between the inner two
prongs. THe resistance should be between 950 and 1200 ohms......
So I think is said zero.... I am confused now..... it didn't say infinity....
However, I couldn't get the continuity tester to light between those
two inner prongs either........
So after reading all this.. I'll sum it up.
Clarify if you can the blinking test while cranking the motor over...
and what is the method for checking the distrbutor.... for resistance
or any other method for checking the distrib
Thanks, Nomen

RE: No Spark Car turns over wont start
I had this issue with my Protege about a month ago. I went to O'Reilly's and ordered two new coils packs right away. I also picked up new NGK plugs too. After I installed the new coil packs I haven't had the problem since. Be sure to go to O'Reilly's there coils are about 40 dollars cheaper than anywhere else. Hope this helps.
