Turns over but wont start
2002 mazda protege will turn over but will not catch.. I think it might be the fuel pump, but I do not know how to test or verify that. Any ideas? I am able to roll the car downhill and pop the clutch to start it as well. This problem is completely intermittent (once I do get it started it usually doesn't do this again for a month or longer). Does the fuel pump sound like the culprit? Any testing ideas? Battery seems fine and think it has spark but have not tested yet.
Also, does anyone have some kind of annotated diagram of parts under the hood of the protege? Thanks guys

I'm having a similar problem with my Protege5. This morning I drove a few miles then parked it and about an hour later went to start it and it just cranked over. Didn't start, finally after fiddling with the engine for 10 minutes I just said screw it, and waited 25 minutes. Then it fired right up, along with a ton of gas that had been pushed through the cylinders. I'm going to go ahead and replace the coils tomorrow, only $36 a piece at shucks-o'reilly's auto. Then the intake air temp sensor.
The fuel pump is new along with a bunch of other stuff so it seems the most logical place to go. Good luck with your car!
