Default Need an intake

I have a 2001 Protege 3 and am looking for a short ram intake to throw in.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which ones would be a good fit?

if you mean an mp3, i know a few. i have an aem and used to have an injen. aem was short ram and injen was cold air. i like the aem a lot better, as it turns out. the fit is great and it looks awesome too. the price is pretty average, so that's not really a selling point. you can get it in many colors and the coating is easy to clean.

yah, the mp3 is the one ive got. Yah, i cant afford the cold air intake, and in my opinion, i dont feel that they dont help much... different forum/thread for that though so youd recommend the aem, where did you get yours? if you dont mind me asking.

The old days it was called an "torque chamber".

And an intake modded in such a way will do exactly what for the engine in question?
  • Better power? Yeah, maybe a half of a horsepower, maybe even one or two horsepower at redline at wide open throttle, but any such gains will most likely accompany a significant loss in mid-range torque.
  • Better fuel economy? Nope, note even .0001 mpg better. In fact, there is a good chance that such a modification to the intake system will reduce the fuel economy.

Anyone feel they get more hp from an intake (cold air or otherwise) on a 2.0L Pro? I moded my stock intake for cold air and added a freeflow Mazdaspeed air filter with not much noticeable gain on an otherwise stock engine. I have since sold my car. If anyone is interested in buying my rare Mazdaspeed filter, pm me.
