Default ignition problem

hey guys im new and i have a 1999 mazda protege with the 1.6l and a m/t. i have come across a odd issue with the car i bought. when you turn the key dash lights and everything come on you can hear solenoids click, but the starter does nothing. i have checked power coming into and out of the clutch pedal switch but nothing there. seems like there is no power coming out of the ignition switch if you power up the circuit to the starter at the fusebox the starter works. i was wondering if anyone else has come upon this problem before. was it the switch or is it in the computer. or a broken wire? any info or help would be greatly appreciated

You should be able to jumper the clutch lock out switch. If it starts with the switch shortened you know it is the switch.

Have it in Neutral!

That's a best guess, I hope someone will confirm or correct me.

btw, that's not an ignition problem it is a starting problem.

i have tried a jumper in the clutch switch to no avail. i believe the problem is in the ignition switch itself and im to cheap to spend 120 bucks on one so it will probly get a push button to opereate starter.

IIRC, you said you're from Nova Scotia. Winter weather will reek havoc on electrical devices and connections.
Check for corrosion (rust) under and around the body grounds and other cables... and or add some additional ground wires to the chassis.

Belt and suspenders.

I did extensive ground and connection test and that aint the problem. I did narrow it down to the switch and i figure the push button will stay as it is also a extra measure of safety from theft.
